Binar Maali 14 Boys Team 2 Win WABL Championship in Our First Year

Binar Maali has its first-ever Western Australia Basketball League (WABL) Championship. Our 14 Boys Team 2 have made history as the first Binar Maali team to win a WABL title, and they did it in our very first year in the competition.

In the Grand Final, the boys defeated the Perth Redbacks 46-40.

A full-circle moment

The story behind this win makes it even more special.

Effie Garlett-Watson was a player in the very first Binar team more than 15 years ago, when Binar was just getting started. Today, Effie is a WABL Championship-winning coach, leading this team alongside Shannon Stack.

From those humble beginnings to a championship trophy, Effie’s journey with Binar shows how far this organisation and its community have come.

Grand Final MVP

Congratulations also to Aaron Jetta Jnr, who was named Grand Final MVP after yet another outstanding game. His skill level for his age is exceptional, and it has been a pleasure to watch him keep developing and growing throughout the season. He has a very exciting future ahead of him.

Thank you and congratulations

A massive congratulations to every player, to coaches Effie and Shannon, to the families, and to everyone who supported this team throughout the year. This result belongs to all of you.

Our first year in WABL. Our first WABL Championship. History made.
