A HISTORIC STEP: BINAR JOINS WABL
WHAT IS WABL
The Western Australian Basketball League (WABL) is the state’s premier junior basketball competition, providing a high-performance pathway for developing athletes, coaches and officials across Western Australia.
Administered by Basketball WA, the competition brings together 14 associations from across metropolitan Perth and regional WA – stretching from Wanneroo to the South West – and includes some of the state’s most talented young basketballers.
WABL caters to players aged 7 to 19, with official competition age groups being U12, U14, U16, U18 and U20. The season journey begins each January with open trials, followed by the WABL Grading Tournament in March, which determines team placement across divisions to ensure balanced and competitive matchups throughout the year.
The regular season kicks off in late April and runs through Term 2 and Term 3 of the school year, including school holidays. Games are held on Sundays over a 16-week fixture, followed by three weeks of finals. Teams travel across WA, playing at venues from Joondalup to Bunbury, and everywhere in between.

Trials & Team Selection
Trials will take place in September/October.
As this is Binar Maali’s inaugural season in WABL, we will be re-trialling for all groups. This differs from other clubs who do not re-trial athletes after State Championships.
Athletes who represented Binar at State Championships are not guaranteed selection for WABL and will still need to participate in trials.
If an athlete is unable to attend a scheduled trial, they will need to complete the Exemption Form below.
All teams are selected by Binar’s Director of Player & Coach Development and the appointed lead coach for each age group, with input from our head coaches.
-
In February and March each year, the competition holds a pre-season Grading Tournament. After grading, the regular season runs between April and August, with finals taking place in September. Round 1 of the 2026 season is scheduled for 26 April. Finals will commence on 30 August after a 16-week regular season, and conclude with Grand Final day on 13 September.

Upon selection, teams will train 1-2 times per week. This will be at the club's/coach's discretion.
