REGIONAL BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS

Binar's regional tournaments in Albany and Bunbury have seen significant growth, with each location benefiting from the full integration of PlayHQ for streamlined registration and scoring. The tournaments showcased the expanding interest and participation in basketball, while also creating a platform for young people to thrive in a supportive environment.

In addition, Binar took a team of referees to Broome to assist with the Junior Shinju Festival Carnival, and to Derby to assist with the Boab Basketball Carnival further expanding the reach and impact of their initiatives. While basketball remains the primary tool for engagement, the regional tournaments, along with accompanying camps, provide the Binar youth teams with valuable opportunities for personal growth, fostering independence in a safe environment. These experiences also allow them to travel and learn from other Aboriginal communities, gaining diverse perspectives and building connections. Binar regularly delivers free basketball clinics throughout regional Western Australia, extending the organisation's reach beyond tournaments and competitions. These clinics are often delivered alongside Binar's tournaments and Health Embassy activations, as part of community events, or as standalone programs designed to meet local community needs. By providing accessible opportunities for participation in sport, Binar supports healthy lifestyles, skill development, leadership and community connection for Aboriginal young people across the state.

“There’s something about these comps that is unlike any other - it’s the level of sportsmanship and comradeship amongst opposing teams. The style of basketball is hard, fast, competitive and incredibly skilled - yet at the beginning and end of each game, it’s like everyone on that court are brothers.”
